Jalepeno Spinach Dip

Here’s a recipe I found online which I plan to try.  It looks wonderful.    I got it from this site.  http://foodfunlife.blogspot.com/2013/01/high-protein-jalapeno-spinach-dip.html   This spinach dip is perfect for anytime. Not only is it super duper delicious, but it’s high protein, low fat, low carb, and contains lots of veggies! The trick is using cottage cheese […]

Unbelievably inspiring!

http://www.woodtv.com/dpp/sports/johnnys-incredible-run-and-finish   This links to an amazing story of a young man from our church who is a great inspiration for me in my journey to get healthy.  Actually, it’s not just Johnny, it’s his entire amazing family.  They are all an inspiration as far as I’m concerned. Last Sunday our parish priest talked about […]

Fly!

It’s less than one month now until my one year is up!  I made a commitment to one straight year of trying to get healthy and fit.  So far I’m down 57.9 pounds and I feel WONDERFUL!  It’s been a great year!  Thinking about what I should commit to for the next year of Project Transform.  I’m […]

Let go or be dragged.

I love this proverb.  It’s become a mantra for my life.  There are so many things I hold onto that I don’t need to!  Most of it is ideas about how things should be.  The old Jane would just eat to feel better when things were spinning out of control .  The new me […]

Doggone it!

Was out walking today on my lunch hour.  So proud of myself for doing it alone when others can’t come.  Drank the Herbalife Prepare first and that made me feel like I could run (and dance my way around the driveway).  I’m so uncoordinated that that must have been hilarious to any neighborhood onlookers.  After […]

Who me? Teach a fitness class?

Down 57.9 pounds now.  Another personal best! Another first!  Last night I co-taught a fitness class.  It’s called Drum Fit and you pound on an exercise ball which sits on a bucket.  I helped get the music ready which taught me a lot about what kind you have to use for a class.  I had […]

Prancercise

For all of you who have read my past posts you know I mess around dancing in the driveway for exercise!  When my neighbor comes out to walk, she always laughs at my antics.  Well, believe it or not, it’s actually a real exercise and there is a website to prove it!   http://prancercise.com/video/    The lady […]

Working it out

I’m down 56.3 pounds now.  That’s a personal best.  I’ve been doing the Herbalife DVD fit and drinking the Prepare and Rebuild drinks. They are a bit pricey but so far I’m considering them worth it.  I’ve been changing things up and trying to add in more exercise throughout the day.  Just an extra five […]

Outside my comfort zone

Today I went outside my comfort zone a little more.  I made calendar events for the next 8 weeks and I’m following a food and exercise plan I came up with.  Well, not all me.  I’m using the exercise plan from the fit24 and I’m using my own food plan which will be high pro, […]

Challenge accepted

Today I am celebrating how far I’ve come, but only briefly because I’m still not done yet.  I started Project Transform on July 16, 2012 and I committed myself to one year of health and wellness.  I’ve got about 8 weeks left and that times out perfectly with the Body Transformation Challenge for Herbalife that […]

Changing it up

I’m down 54.7 pounds now, but it’s coming off slow.  I’m unstuck but it’s slow going.  I’ve got 23 pounds to go to where I have set my goal.  Just 13 of that in order to get to my next big goal which is wedding dress weight.  A few days ago I started drinking Herbalife […]

Unstuck

What is it about getting stuck when losing weight.  I can’t make sense of it.  I’m doing everything right.  What makes a body just stop? I’ve been stuck on the same pound for months.  54 pounds off, and bouncing up and down around that 54 mark.  Today I finally broke through and made it to […]

Herbalife

Finally made the decision to become an Herbalife Distributor.  I have a full-time job in the medical field that I really love so I’m going to build my Herbalife business in the evenings and weekends.  Since I have been using the products for almost a year now, and it’s helped me lose 54 pounds, I’m […]

My get up and go got up and went

I even cracked myself up with the title for this blog post.  When the clock goes off, my first thought is that I hope its raining so I have an excuse not to go walk, or that Karen can’t go, or anything that would make it so I could stay in bed.  After a minute […]

… and walk til you feel better

I’m still really shocked by the fact that I like to get up early and walk.  When the alarm goes off, I have to admit I instantly think, “Oh crap, why am I doing this?”  But then I start thinking about how good I feel after and how much I enjoy seeing the dawn crack and that gets me moving.  I’ve got a light on my hat so I can see.  One time, had a big laugh when a skunk popped out.  I know I screamed and I’m pretty sure the skunk did too.  Lucky for me he didn’t spray!  Once my neighbor Karen joins me, we’re (usually mostly me) blabbing like crazy about the day before and the day ahead.  Sometimes we have long discussions about social issues and I love that because I always start out I’m so sure I’m right, but she has insights that make me realize I’m not, LOL.  No matter, the time flies and soon we’re checking our smartphone Runtastic apps to see how far we’ve gone. As I head back in to get some breakfast, I’m always amazed at how good I feel. I really do feel better.

Put me in coach!

I have found something I really enjoy doing.  So many people have asked me how I lost weight and I love talking about it, so  I’m coaching people at the nutrition club now to help them lose weight. Sometimes I think it’s silly because my only real qualification is that I have lost 54 pounds and (kept […]

I’ve got an expiration date

Went to the funeral home today for a friend and can’t help but be reminded that I’ve got an expiration date too. This made me remember that I’ve got to go about making my spiritual health as important as my body’s health.   Took some opportunities for prayer today and to really try to open […]

I’ve been hoofin’ it…

It finally happened. I wore out my walking shoes. I started what I call “Project Transform” on July 16, 2012 and I’ve calculated by using Runtastic and Endomondo (two mobile apps to track it) that I have walked about 500 miles since then. I have walked so much that my shoes have no cushion left […]

To thee I wed

I’m down almost 54 pounds now.  17 pounds from my next big goal – which is to match my wedding weight from 27 years ago. I was overweight at my wedding so it’s not where I want to end up but it’s exciting to think I can get to it.  I gained weight after we got married.  […]

Sittin Pretty

I’m waiting on a flight from Denver home and (aside for the fact that that I have some kind of gastric disturbance resulting in me having the green apple two-step – which is bad when you are on a plane!) I just realized that I FIT IN THE SEAT!  OMG it feels good! I can […]

Just keeping picking at it!

Saw this cartoon and knew it should be the subject of my next blog post. This is one of the things I have learned with my project transform Jane. I’ve got to keep picking at it and realize my success could be right within my reach! I’ve got 25 pounds left to lose but this […]

Real Life

This is a real life blog. I’m A 52 year-old woman struggling with a lifelong history of being fat.  I’ve always called it being heavy or big.  Sounds nicer that way.  My mom always said I got my grandma’s genes and not to worry about it; that it is the beauty within that matters.  That’s […]

Counter intuitive

My son and his girlfriend visited this weekend and they decided to get Krispy Kreme donuts! Here they are sitting on my counter. Step one was me NOT going into the Krispy Kreme store with them. I waited in the car. Once the donuts arrived in the car the smell was overpowering, smelled so good. […]

doctor doctor

As part of my goal for reaching 50 pounds, I went to see my doctor and showed her how much weight I have lost.  Stunned doesn’t even describe it.  She said, “Did you have a surgery or something to do this?”  I told her no, I did it on my own!  She was pretty amazed. […]

Celebrating 50

Celebrating 50 pounds    Holding 50 pounds of potatoes to celebrate 50 pounds of weight loss     My neighbor, Karen, holding 50 pounds of dog food to celebrate her loss!

50 ways to leave your lover

If you’ve been reading my blog, you probably have gleaned that I’ve been a food addict.  I’ll admit it.  I’m not sorry about it.  I DO wish I had been able to change sooner, it certainly would have been better for my health but nonetheless I’m doing it now.  It started when I was about […]

Krispy Kreme Kraziness

Down 49.1 pounds now.  Big day right around the corner!  It’s just a matter of time now.  I think I can!  I think I can!  I think I can! This video is a month old but I forgot to post it when I took it.  Figured today is as good as any.  I’m cured of […]

Gluten Free is still for me

Lately I’ve been watching the news and reading sites on the internet that say people are going gluten free when they shouldn’t, that we all need whole grains and that unless we have celiac we shouldn’t stop eating grains. They expound on the virtue of having grains in our diet and say that people who […]

Making mountains out of mole hills

Now down 47.5 pounds.  Felt like I was stuck on the same pound for a month.  I’ve been hanging in anyway.  Still doing my exercises every day, still eating right.  Working on staying healthy and getting fit.  I have complained to everyone I know though.  I’m like a big baby!  I can’t lose weight, poor […]

I’ve got class

I’m down 46.1 pounds now.  Such hard work!    Last night I went to nutrition class again.  About three years ago I saw a sign out in front of a mall-like store that said weight loss classes now forming and I want to give them credit for helping me get this far.  […]

Choices, chances, changes

Losing weight is so slow right now.  Seems like I’ve hit a plateau. Takes forever to even lose a pound.  That’s okay though.  It’s a  great time to find out how committed I am and how I will handle myself when I get to my goal. My goal originally wasn’t to lose weight.  It was […]

I’m changing

I’m down 45 pounds now.  It’s slow going, that’s for sure.  I work so hard, but have barely any change at the scale.  That’s okay though.  I’m still changing.  I’m changing habits, self talk and what I eat.  The more I do it, the more it’ll seem like my normal so I’m hanging in there.  […]

Inside Out

Our driveways are officially to icy for our daily walks now.  Rather than fall and break a bone, it’s time for plan B.  Exercise inside.  Oh, how I dread this.  The boredom factor.  Even with TV going, I have a hard time staying on the equipment.  Or should I say, the old me did.  The […]

Blog on

I’m down 44 pounds now and on January 16th I’ll be at the six month mark for Project Transform.  I started this project to see what could happen in one year of working to change my lifestyle and I’ve already progressed so far past what I ever thought was possible for me!   In the past, […]

It’s a marathon, not a sprint

Was listening to my daily update from Chris Powell at Reshape the Nation (reshapethenation.com) and he was talking about weight loss being a marathon not a sprint.  It’s something I really want to keep in mind as I move forward because I still have plenty more weight I want to lose and I want to keep from […]

I’m halfway!

I’m down 42.1 Pounds now!  That’s my official halfway point.  I was so surprised to weigh myself today and find out I made it!    Whoop whoop!  Totally thrilled!  It gets easier every day and I’m getting better at planning and preparing meals.

Morton Salt Day

Can’t believe today has finally arrived!  I reached the 40 pound mark today!!  I have been stuck on the same ounce for over ten days straight.  Today, I finally inched it down and made it!  I hardly have words to describe how happy I am about this.  Just two more pounds to my halfway mark besides!  […]

Still chugging along

Back from our trip and still walking every day!  Today Karen and I walked 3.7 miles.  I’m still excited from the 5K and Karen and I are planning to walk in a local 5K called the Fifth Third Riverbank Run.  Today we decided to go that far as part of our training.  I love the […]

Making me walk

In New York we are staying with Rachel’s boyfriend and his family.  These are amazing people.  I love them so much.  The first time we met them we knew we would grow to love them. Louise and Bill We walked the 5K yesterday and today the kids want to walk again, around their neighborhood.  Where […]

5K Day

My first 5K.  (I’m down 38.9 pounds now!) I joined my family in Corning New York for a 5K called the Pie and Glove.  On Thanksgiving Day, I bundled up and walked in a 5K for the first time.  I didn’t know what to expect, and I was so excited.  I remember how cold I […]

A happy life

“If you want to live a happy life, tie it to a goal, not to people or things.” — Albert Einstein Thinking alot about goals today. I have some goals at work I would like to accomplish as well as some personal goals.  Of course, weight loss is the biggie for me right now.  It’s […]

During

“It’s determination and commitment to an unrelenting pursuit of your goal that will enable you to attain the success you seek.”  — Mario Andretti, Race Car Driver I am defnitely pursuing this goal as hard and fast as I can.  Tonight was the end of our weight loss challenge at Herbalife.  Dan won 2nd place […]

Changing it up

“Sometimes we stare so long at a door that is closing that we see too late the one that is open.”  — Alexander Graham Bell, Inventor  I’m down 35.3 now and Dan is 49 pounds.  Karen, our neighbor, 42.5.  Together we have lost 126.8 pounds.  That is so amazing!  Personally, I have 48 to go […]

Amazing and exciting

Here’s what is amazing!   I’m down 35.1 pounds now.  How can it be?  It’s not fast, but it keeps going.  I just keep doing what I’m doing and it’s slowly dropping off.  I can’t say it’s always easy.  We just went through Halloween and candy was everywhere.  Now it’s almost Thanksgiving and that means more […]

Pulling it all together

I’m down 31.9 pounds now.  Still working hard and trying to make sense of how come it comes off so slowly.  Today was an exciting day because I had my appointment with the Wisdom Wellness Center.  They went over my recent tests, helping me understand how my blood tests came out and what treatments can […]

Accomplish?

“People do not decide to become extraordinary. They decide to accomplish extraordinary things. “ — Sir Edmund Hilary, First to reach the summit of Mount Everest Watching other people lose weight doesn’t seem so hard.  Actually doing it myself is!  I have heard so many people tell me that it’s easy and give me so […]

The stream or the rock?

“In the confrontation between the stream and the rock, the stream always wins, not through strength but by perseverance.” — H. Jackson Brown, Author Today was another cold morning.  I live in Michigan so I know what to expect.  We are heading toward winter and it’s going to be cold every day.  It’s only the […]

Brrrrr….what was I thinking

Went out to walk at 6 a.m. and it was COLD.  There was frost on the ground and I could see my breath!  What was I thinking?  I walked for about one minute and then went it where it was warm to reassess!  After some positive self talk about how I can overcome this and […]

Veggie tales

One of the best outcomes from the life changes we have made is the humor that has resulted from project transform! Since I can’t eat gluten anymore or sugar I’ve had to really work hard to find foods I want to eat, cook and serve to anyone. Some things I have tried have been okay […]

You must do the thing you think you cannot do

“You gain strength, courage, and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face. You are able to say to yourself, “I have lived through this horror. I can take the next thing that comes along.” . . . You must do the thing you think you cannot do.” […]

Drilling it in

“It’s the repetition of affirmations that leads to belief. And once that belief becomes a deep conviction, things begin to happen.”.- Muhammad Ali. Good quote to ponder today.  It’s been 12 weeks now and I’m down 25 pounds total.  I was commenting to my husband this weekend that I am surprised by how resolute I […]

Walk on

Walking has suddenly become one of the things I crave. How can this be? I actually find myself looking forward to it! OMG. This weekend I also made another discovery. TV cooking shows are bad for me to watch. Saw some this weekend while at my cottage. I had no food cravings before watching them […]

Milestone Day

It’s been almost a week since I blogged.  That’s because I found out some more information that I think explains why I lose weight so slowly and I’m still processing it.  I had some recent lab tests done and it looks like I have Hashimoto’s.  When I heard this I went right to work looking up […]

Go or get off the pot

The way to get started is to quit talking and begin doing. -Walt Disney My dad used to say either go or get off the pot which in our house meant quit whining and complaining, quit thinking about it, quit worrying.  Just do it and live with the consequences.  People who know me well, know […]

Now landing …..

This morning I was out walking in my driveway early.  It was still pitch black and the stars were incredible.  I pulled out my cell phone and set Endomondo to start tracking my walk, then put in my headphones for my Ipod and started rocking out to my favorite tunes.  Since it was so dark, I […]

Ready, Set, Action!

“Create a definite plan for carrying out your desire and begin at once, whether you’re ready or not, to put this plan into action.” — Napoleon Hill, Motivational Writer  I was thinking about this today.  I did have a basic plan when I started, but I didn’t have it all figured out and I jumped […]

Don’t let yesterday….

“Don’t let yesterday take up too much of today.” — Will Rogers, humorist  Today I’m pondering the idea of letting go of the past.  Just like everyone else I’ve got reasons for how I put on the weight, but I need to begin to see myself in a new way.  In the past, I’ve lost […]

You have feet in your shoes

We have feet in our shoes!!!!  Today’s words of wisdom come from Dr. Seuss!  We can steer ourselves in the direction we want and we’re doing it! It’s getting later in the year, so now when we walk it’s still dark out.  We use the flashlights on our phones to help us see until dawn. […]

Bye Bye Catherines! Bye Bye Lane Bryant!

Weighed in today and I’m now down 11 pounds! Not only that, my next milestone will be to crack that elusive 200 pound mark. Yes I said it 200 pounds. Sometimes I wonder how I ever let myself get here and then I realize that I did this to myself. I put the food into […]

Not packing on the pounds, but piling up the miles!

Today I did the math!  I have walked every day for 6 weeks and averaged 2 miles a day. That means I have walked about 84 miles!  I think I have ridden my bike about 20 miles besides.  I’m down 8.5 pounds now.  It’s slow going but I’m creeping in the right direction.  Amazing!  I’m […]

Slow and steady

“It does not matter how slowly you go up, as long as you don’t stop.” Confucius, philosopher It’s a Monday weigh in and of course I’m still only down a slight scooch, a half pound in a whole week of a ridiculous amount of work and effort. I’m still working out every day, weighing and measuring my food […]

Dance it out

I’m now about 35 days into my 365 day transformation. I won’t say I have not had any rough patches, because I certainly have. I struggled with a very sore left foot for several weeks and that made walking difficult. When I started walking I purchased running shoes and it turns out those shoes were […]

Making tracks

I’m tracking everything I eat, drink and do and it is paying off.  Today I showed a loss, finally.  I’m officially down 5 pounds and I can feel a change.  My clothes are loosening up just a scooch. The myfitnesspal is giving me a way to carefully manage what I put in my mouth.  I […]

What you think about, you are

It’s been almost 30 days since I began this experience, my own project transform, and I am taking a minute to reflect about what I am learning.  As I was exercising this morning, I listened to a sound byte by Brian Tracey. He is one of my favorite speakers and someone I find fascinating.  He was […]

Rain down

Had to chuckle this morning when I woke up and looked out the window.  I’ve been walking in the mornings now and I thought I would never say this but I actually really like doing it.  It was pouring out there.  My dad used to have this dumb joke, “Hope this rain keeps up!  If […]

Keeping it real

Today was spent reassessing the changes I need to make in order to be successful.  After I saw the nutrition specialist over at Nutriments of Cascade yesterday, I knew she was right and that was the missing piece of the puzzle.  I immediately started looking at my food diary and working to understand what changes […]

Gotta curb my carbs!

Still not losing.  I’m up 3 pounds since Monday so actually one pound more than when I started this challenge nearly a month ago.  I made another trip back to Nutriments to talk with Lisa. She really knows her nutrition. Luckily I had been tracking every bite into My Fitness Pal. She just pulled up the […]

I’m apt to app

Staying on track seems to be easier when using apps.  I’m using endomondo to track my exercise.  Today I tried myfitnesspal as an app to track what I eat.  Until now I was using mynetdiary but at the advice of my kids, decided to try the other.  Found out it is easier and so far […]

Aspire to Inspire

It’s Monday and I stepped on the scale for my official weekly weight.  I’m down a total now of 2.2 pounds in three weeks of hard work.  It’s not what I hoped for but I’m still not giving up.  Last night I watched extreme makeover again.  Love that show and it helps me want to […]

How long must I weight?

Today was a first.  Someone said, “Are you losing weight?” which led me to tell the whole story about how I step on the scale and it’s still my original weight even after almost three full weeks of tracking my eating carefully and exercising every single day!  The person said, “Well, your face looks thinner […]

I can’t stress this enough

Today was a stressful day and I certainly had every reason (my old self did) and every opportunity to stuff my face due to the stress.  Before project transform, when I got stressed I would just eat my way through it but I’m determined not to do that anymore.  I started this transformation at 215.4 […]

On and on I go

Had a very busy weekend hosting a family event. Didn’t cave though and still exercised every day! Raced to the scale again today feeling like I have lost only to find I didn’t. It’s so hard to take and in the past I certainly would have given up. I’m not giving up though! In fact […]

The scale is moving!

I raced to the scale this morning and found out I lost!  I’m down 3 pounds total now and I’m happy that I’m sticking with it.  In the old days I would have given up by now!  The scale is moving now and it’s moving in the right direction finally! I went biking again for […]

Fit to Fitbit?

Today I’m getting a Fitbit.  I’ve done a ton of research about this product and I can see that it will work with the app I’m currently using to track my workouts.  One of the things I am the most interested in is that it says it will track your sleep.   There are great reviews […]

Bulk food = bulk Jane

Still resolved to keep going with Project Transform.  Committing to a year has been a great thing for me because I’m thinking long term, not week to week.  I’m more interested in the weight loss number one year from now rather than next week, so it’s helping me focus in a different way.  Like yesterday, […]

Same old story… same old me?

Same old story.  I diet and exercise for a week, it feels like it’s going great!  Everyday when I weigh myself I’m down, then comes the big weigh in day.  For me, it’s Monday mornings!  Today!  It’s the one I am recording.  I step on the scale full of excitement because I know how hard I […]

Who knew?

Who knew Karen and I could kayak across a lake?  After last night’s debacle with waiting until too late to exercise, we decided to exercise in the morning!  Wish I had three kayaks so my husband could have joined us, but that will have to wait for another day!  Karen and I managed to muscle […]

Hoofing it in the dark!

Still excited about exercise and still eating carefully.  I’m using an app called Mynetdiary to track my food.  As usual, life is busy and I waited too long to exercise.  We were busy playing outside at the cottage with family and friends and the time slipped away!  Finally, at 10:30 p.m. we knew we had […]

Working in it with work

I planned to get up early today and walk before work because I was worried that we were going to the cottage tonight and I wanted to make sure I got a workout in.  I can’t believe I’m even saying I want to work out!  What is happening to me?  Whatever it is, I’m glad!  […]

A wrench

Karen can’t walk tonight so I’m on my own.  Almost sabotaged myself and gave up, but reminded myself how much I want to get this weight off!  My husband surprised me by coming along!

Bonus!

What a great night.  The workout felt great AND we met John Westra who is running for township supervisor!

A storm is brewing

It’s day two for our project transform and I’m working hard not to give up!  I worry that the exercise will make my muscles hurt.  In the past, I’ve tried so hard to keep from my muscles hurting so I hardly did anything!  We can’t let a storm stop us!

Walk on

I’m excited and nervous to start my transformation.  I talked with my neighbor and she is joining me but my husband is not convinced.  He has seen me do this before and he thinks I’ll start and then give up.  I’ve got a great resolve this time but even I am worried I’ll give up. […]

Project Transform? Why?

I’ve done the grapefruit diet, Weight Watchers, TIPS, Herbalife, Medical Weight Loss, Dukan and Jenny Craig. I start out with a bang and then as soon as I don’t see the scale moving, or things get hard, I give up and announce that I am okay with being “fat”. I usually start making jokes about […]
